Somewhere around Middlebury, Indiana

We decided to take the back roads on our recent trip to Michigan. We drove through this Amish town. This area is beautiful to start with, but there were incredible clouds this day.

This is a 9-frame HDR photo.

Photo of farm with clouds.

Photo of red barn with birds and clouds.

I stopped to take this picture and this group of birds flew up and circled around a couple times. This is a 1-frame HDR.

Barn in Brookville, Indiana

Barn photo

I spotted this barn on the way to my friend's house in Brookville, Indiana. The evening sun was shining on the barn and I saw these sweeping clouds. I thought it might make a nice photo.

5-Photo HDR of the Tobacco Barn

The top photo is a combination of 5 HDR photos. I like the colors in this one better than the one to the photo to the right. I think the colors are better and the there is more detail.

I processed the photo to the right a long time ago. I have improved my skills since then.

Abandoned Farm House

This is a combination of 5 photos merged together. It was cloudy and rainy. I was afraid the photo wouldn't turn out because the blowing rain got on my lense.

I still wasn't thrilled with the photo after I merged the individual photos. I processed it with Photoshop CS2. I prefer Photoshop CS4, but I haven't installed it on my laptop yet.

List of what I did:

Added a Color Balance layer

Added a Curves adjustment layer

Duplicate background, made it soft light at 75%

Duplicate background, made it soft light at 75% and with an eraser brush at 45% I erased the ground and sky. This intensified the house and not the ground and sky.

Added a layer, used black and painted around all edges. With this layer selected, I applied a Guassian Blur filter at the highest level to soften the edges of the paint. Turned it into a Soft Light overlay at 100%.

Added another layer and and painted with black over the clouds and a few places in the yard. Again, I added the Guassian Blur. Turned this into a Soft Light overlay at 70%.

Added a texture layer, Darkened at 31%.

The Fox and the House

Abandoned House

This was an old abandoned house next to Rose Hill Cemetery. I loved this house. One day I decided to pull in and take a couple pictures with my little camera I carry in my purse. It was an overcast day and I didn't think the photos turned out very well. I didn't do anything with these pictures until after I took a Photoshop class. I had also been watching videos on Lynda.com about photo editing. I played around with this and I thought it came out really well. I searched Google images for a dog to put in the front yard. I wanted it to be running towards me. I have a photo like that, but I thought it would take too long to find it and my projects had to be turned in that day. I found this photo of a fox so I used it.

As you can see, there is a huge difference between the two.
